Also, we leverage AWS VPC flow log for any traffic between in and out AWS environments. We strongly recommend use of Paloalto next Gen firewall (virtual appliance) in front of AWS VPC in public subnet to allow and control traffic flow down to infrastructure and also going out form AWS. All access to and from internet is configured via Paloalto firewall/VPN solution. Same appliance could be used for VPN connectivity like – site-to-site, client-to-site. We also leverage different IDS/IPS solutions offer key features to help protect your EC2 instances. You can use AWS services and third-party IDS/IPS solutions offered in AWS Marketplace. Providers such as: Alerltlogic, Mcafee, Trendmicro , symantec . etc..
